HTTPS

What is HTTPS?

HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, which is the encrypted and secure version of the traditional HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol). It is a crucial protocol that enables secure communication between a web browser and a web server, ensuring that the data transferred between them is protected from interception or tampering.

To activate HTTPS on a website, an SSL/TLS certificate is required. This certificate not only verifies the identity of the website but also establishes an encrypted connection. The encryption process ensures that even if someone intercepts the data being transferred, they cannot read or misuse it.

When you visit a website using HTTPS, you’ll notice a padlock icon in the browser’s address bar. This symbol indicates that the connection is secure, meaning any personal information, such as login credentials or payment details, is transmitted safely.

Is HTTPS Important for SEO?

Yes, HTTPS is important not only for data security but also for SEO. Since 2014, Google has recognised HTTPS as a ranking signal, which means that websites using HTTPS are more likely to rank higher in search engine results compared to those that do not. Consequently, implementing HTTPS is now a standard requirement for all modern websites, ensuring both user trust and improved search engine visibility.
