Noreferrer, indicated by the attribute rel=”noreferrer” in HTML links, is a tool that tells the browser not to share any referrer information when a user clicks on a link. 

This simply means that when someone clicks a link with this attribute, the website they’re directed to won’t know where the visitor came from. 

How Does Noreferrer Work?

When a link contains the noreferrer attribute, it prevents the target site from receiving any details about the original page. This also means that in analytics tools like Google Analytics, visits from these links will show up as Direct Traffic instead of Referral Traffic.  

Why Is Norreferrer Important?

While noreferrer doesn’t directly affect your SEO rankings, it’s still a useful feature. Links marked with noreferrer are still crawlable by search engines and can pass “link juice,” which helps with your site’s authority. 

It is recommended to use noreferrer in external links that open in a new tab as this can enhance privacy and security for your visitors. However, it’s important to note that without the rel=”noreferrer” attribute, modern browsers only share the domain name as referrer information.
