Relative URL

What is a Relative URL? 

There are two main URL options: Absolute URLs and Relative URLs. Where an absolute URL is the full URL (with the protocol subdomain, domain, and path) a relative URL is a way to link to a resource (like a webpage, image, or file) using a path that’s relative to the current page’s location, rather than providing the full web address. 

Absolute URL: https://digitalnomadshq.com.au/glossary/relative-url/  

Relative URL: /glossary/relative-url/  

Put simply, it’s assumed that the browser will know the context of the relative URL based on the current page’s location. 

When to Use Relative URLs 

Relative URLs work best when you’re linking to other pages or resources on your own site. Relative URLs keep everything neat and organised. Additionally, when building or testing a website, using relative URLs can help ensure that links work correctly regardless of the domain used.
