Schema Markup

What is Schema Markup?

Developed by Schema.org, a collaborative project started by Google, Microsoft, Yandex, and Yahoo in 2011, schema markup is a structured data format that offers key details about your web pages in a way that search engines can easily interpret and display.

Is Schema Markup Necessary?

Simply, no – schema markup is not required for a search engine to understand a webpage. However, there are many reasons why you might want to include it.

With schema markup, you essentially give search engines a clearer picture of what your content is about. This allows them to display your information in more visually appealing ways in search results, like rich snippets in Google. These can include things like star ratings for products, service and movies, upcoming events, or even a carousel of featured items like recipes etc.

Google aims to improve user experience by providing more relevant and attractive search results, and schema markup plays a crucial role in this. By implementing the right structured data on your web pages, you can increase your chances of appearing in these search results, which, ultimately, drive more traffic to your site.

How Do You Add Schema To a Website

Fortunately, it become quite simple to implement schema markups to your site. For CMS’s like WordPress, there are various plugins and tools available to help you implement it easily. It can also be manually added with the help of tools like Google’s Structured Data Markup Helper or Schema.org.
